The works "White Mist" and "Little Butterfly" for solo marimba offer advanced players the opportunity to express themselves cantabilely on the instrument. "White Mist" particularly challenges the left hand with its long melodic phrases and strong dynamic contrasts. "Little Butterfly," on the other hand, with only one mallet sequence, offers a great deal of musical substance in terms of agogics, dynamics, and the development of the middle voice. The playing techniques for "White Mist" require single or single alternating strokes, as well as double vertical strokes in sixths. Towards the end of the piece, a rapid double lateral movement in the right hand is required. "Little Butterfly" demands an agogically flexible permutation of single alternating strokes (1-4-2-3), which is occasionally broken up. Both pieces are musically varied, offer interesting harmonic surprises, and cultivate the musical sensitivity of large phrases. Difficulty level: intermediate. Instrument: A-marimba (4.3 octaves), four mallets. Duration: approx. 2:30 min. each. ISMN No. 979-0-50220-185-2
