Inspirations/Piccon

A groovy, lively, and varied piece for marimba, offering ample opportunity for improvisation and the possibility of playing it as a duo with a cajon. A musically rich piece for both players and listeners. Difficulty: Intermediate. Instrument: A marimba (4.3 octaves), four mallets. Duration: Approx. 5 min. About the composition: The piece begins with a minimalist, pattern-like structure. This is followed by a flowing, soft improvisation section, and then a contrasting, rock-infused passage in an uptempo feel (double time). The piece concludes with an expressive coda that quotes elements of the first section, thus rounding off the composition. Special features: The piece can be played as a solo work for marimba or as a duo with cajon (possibly with additional cymbals and hot rods). Furthermore, it includes an improvised section based on chord progressions. Here, the written lyrics can be played, or advanced players can attempt their own improvisation.
